Financing / Crowdfunding : Horror anthology with a big name actor. by Lawrence Lee Wallace

Horror anthology with a big name actor.

So I'm writing a horror anthology and I want to try crowdfunding to raise some of the money to make it. I know a short trailer or proof of concept is important to have as part of the pitch. I was also told having a big name actor in it helps as well, but I'm not sure how to go about securing one. Anyone advice?

I;m using a special crowdfunding site for filmmakers, but Indiegogo is also pretty good I think. Getting a well known name is a matter of having a great network or just asking. Of course I'm from a smaller country, but I usually look for their profile on facebook or linkedin and try to connect.

Great advice! Thanks!

Probably need a track record to secure a “big name/up and coming” actor. Even crew people on the rise want to know what you have done.

Just watched “A Most Violent Year” and director JC Chandor hired cinematographer Bradford Young who went on to shoot franchise movies and recently Oscar nominated.

Lawrence, THIS is where an experienced producer comes in - and THIS is where most independent filmmakers fail. An experienced producer has connections with certain actors - especially ones that are specialized such as bigger value in a horror film. An experienced producer has connections with directors of photography. I have an Oscar-Nominated director of photography attached to my feature Stay Fresh, as well as some actors - with BIGGER ones on the way. Everything from great locales at a reasonable price, to a name composer can help. You put together a package. You do it, by getting an experienced producer. And, they may not want to work for free - even if it's a small fee up front and a BIGGER fee when the budget is raised. BUT, I promise you an experienced producer can do 10 times what you can, if they have a track record. Break Legs! GOD BLESS and STAY FRESH!

Makes sense! Thanks Dan and Sam!

Lawrence, I wrote on FrankenSITTER. You still can find it on Indiegogo and see how they did it. The page looks polished and the creator added a few teasers from time to time. Being blunt and just asking people can work. I usually look if the have a public reading or something and ask. Most of the time it doesn't work, but I believe famous people are people too, so when you are innocent enough it might work. At least it is how I do it. And when you "catch" someone you of course also need o do something back, like helping promote or something. A network only works when you all help each other out.

And sometimes you do get lucky. I worked as a production assistant on a really small project. It turned out a lot of fun and our stunt guy was pretty big since he worked for A Bourne movie and a lot of other Hollywood movies. He can be found on Facebook btw :)

Raymond. Thank you so much! This is a huge help!

Lawrence, this is the IMDp of the stunt guy and he is very nice too. So that proofs really my point that anything is possible. I am a shy person, so if I can do it, anyone can. - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0766565/https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0766565/
