At the Produced By Conference this past weekend at Warner Bros, I was talking with a couple of producers. I expressed my interest in working as a line producer. They advised that a way to get started is to get jobs in things you're already good at. As I understand from them, I can get paid to do script breakdowns for people. As a former scripty and a producer of a short film, I'm very well-versed in breaking down scripts. Is this true, can I get paid for this work? Where would I find such opportunities?

If you can break down a script into a shooting schedule and budget (non-union, and union, SAG, DGA, WGA, Teamsters, or a non-union using SAG) regardless of the genre, and be accurate ... yes, there's money to be made. In LA people would pay anywhere from $5K - $10K.
Once I've developed the skill-set where would I go looking for the work?

Nathan - just get your butt on set however you can and work your way up from that (nobody hires off a resume in the film world).
What about finding work as Office PA or APOC? I'd be happy to work and prove myself in those capacities for you or anyone you know. For those that have worked in that position, what do you recommend as a place to start getting those jobs?
