Hi everyone. Hopefully, I'm a bit like a lot of people, inundated with things to do and look at and respond to during the day and as such I'm guilty of not really looking at all the resources available here at Stage32 which is why the lounges had completely slipped my attention. My bad!
I'm at a point in my life and career where I'm transitioning from old to new, career 2.0. I'm studying Cinematography and writing at UCLA Extension (hello any fellow students or alums). It's a blast and before anyone mentions the "age" thing, I'll point out that Roger Deakins is 70 and that I've been a photographer for... some decades, where some is an integer greater than 2 lol.
I have a project I'm working on, I think you can see loglines and synopsis on here somewhere. It's interesting as it started as a feature script and after a friend of mine did coverage for me, she suggested changing to an episodic a-la Altered Carbon on Netflix. So I'm busy reworking... A LOT!
Looking forward to some conversation and debate!

Thanks! I've had a little writers' block the last few weeks, actually, there were other things on my mind that were more important (health-related) but I had a blitz today and mapped out the last few pages of my pilot. Almost there...!

The thing I like about people who change direction in life, is they have an inquisitive restless mind and have usually experienced many aspects of life. I sometimes think, what am I doing at my age, this could take years, maybe even decades to get anywhere and maybe I never will. Then I remember my shitty life is an encyclopaedia of often catastrophic F*ups. Writers with a life "well" lived have a unique insight into so many levels of the human condition.

Karen, I so hear you! I take a little solace from the idea that when I really, really put my mind to something, it gets done! Like relocating to the US. I totally agree about the inquisitive and restless mind but how long did it take you to realize that was a huge advantage and not, as others would have you believe, a massive disadvantage?
I have a great friend who keeps "reminding" me of things when I get impatient or frustrated. I believe a common problem amongst Brits is a predilection for the glass being somewhat less than half full. My friend tells me to snap outta that! Realize the advantages you have and just get stuff done.
There is a wonderful psychology book by Dr. Carol Dweck called Mindsets. It probably should be required reading for anyone in the creative fields.
