Writing scripts for actors

Hey guys,

I attended an alumni panel at my alma mater today where I learned of a niché market where actors hire writers/directors to create small projects for them. Specifically, actors allegedly hire a writer to create a piece for them to display certain skills within their range.

I was curious to know if this was a real market and if it is, where a writer-director such as myself would go to offer my services?

Please note, I am not asking for work in this thread, I'm just aiming to confirm if this is a real market.

Thanks!

This happens in Indie sometimes, but for myself stemmed from personal interaction at social events and not a business service. “Niche” all depends where you are networking and exactly who you are networking with.

I would not call it a “market” and don’t think institutionalised studios have a job description for this but during my networking rounds have had several actors ask me to showcase them. (As in write, direct, film). However, this came from social requests, not from being sat in an office with a job title, where actors were paying for an advertised service.

Thanks, Debbie. I had plans to spend more time attending networking events and reaching out to talent via social media to see if they would be interested in such a service. Thank you for your insight.
