I never knew the amount of ass kissing required

At the beginning of this literary journey I didn't have huge expectations, I simply wanted to write fascinating stories. The reality of it is - everyone makes money off the writer - but the writer. The pitch festivals, the book conventions, the fake-ass marketing services: I'm sick of it all. The literary world has reduced us to spam artists, where we grease up our lips at the completion of each manuscript, and apply them to the asses of potential agents. All for what? An endless bundle of rejection letters? I just wanted to write stories for the Love of the story, that's all, not get herpes in the mouth from kissing so much ass.

Just imagine when you’re employed and have to do this every day. The amount of commission fees and free writing labor don’t stop.

Ah yes... 9 to 5 in a stuffy little room full of quarrelsome actors. Welcome to the Writer's Room.

Nothing happens without the writer - in a perfect world they would appreciate us more.

The Hollywood film industry knows just how important writers are - they just don't want to admit it. They know that once writers realized how important they are; it would cost a whole lot more to hire 'em.

Scan the drivel that passes for stories these days and you wonder how the industry people make any money. The market---any entertainment market---is insatiable, but the democratization of the "arts" means you're competing with 7,999,999,999 people on the globe for attention, and so are the industry people. Too many writers chasing too few dollars. The good news is, people can self-finance even in the movie industry, but .... it takes the effort and commitment of all the people who make a film come together. Why don't people start their own production companies? Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, etc. did. Granted the industry was new, cheaper, and were already ahead of the game, BUT the principle is still the same...my advice is beg, borrow or creditcard you some $$$ and make your movie. And if you response is, yeah but .... then pucker up...
