Hi Christiane I am an Australian. I am trying to start a web-based business promoting the literature of cinema - books, magazines, screenplays, criticism. I have a .eu domain that I will lose if I am not an EU citizen. Greece is in the EU? Thats Good! I also need a web designer and editor if possible. The content would be in English in all countries like IMDB. if you are interested we can discuss details by email. GilCoats
Rouben I am working on my web skills. But my immediate problem is a .eu domain which I will lose if I'm not an EU citizen. Yet this problem is an opportunity to find compadres who share my interest in cinema literature. Thanks for your reply. Gil
I mean I'd love to eventually check out your site/what you're posting about, etc. but I'd definitely recommend checking out the above (honestly it's super easy to use and navigate). If you build a new site with the above platforms you can just make a new domain. Also a useful link; https://www.a2hosting.com/blog/change-your-domain-name/
Gil Coats You don't need an .eu domain to do business in Europe. That is just unnecessarily complicating things. Also second the suggestion to start making the website in WP, Wix or similar. It is really quite easy, just time-consuming.
Thanks for your reply. Yes. I know I can just develop my Australian domain and it will be accessible anywhere on the Web. But I want to franchise my database of literature to other countries. I have cinemapages domains in all English speaking countries including India and China and HK. I want franchisees to have a territory where they can identify bookshops, libraries, DVD shops, movie theatres etc on a Google Map. The database will contain books, magazines and DVDs with contents, index, bibliographies, filmographies and links to reviews. There are 50,000+ books on cinema and thousands of movie magazines. Also, there are cinema study courses in most universities (about 15,000 universities worldwide). I want to have my searchable database in all of them! But the marketing of this site will have to be done by franchisees. So, I want to hold on to my .eu domain. Whoever manages the EU market has 36? countries. But, I need someone to develop my Australian site first and be an editor. My ambitions are way ahead of my skills and time. I am an Economist and Lawyer with an Arts/Media Degree. I'm offering you a job!
Some things free, others subscription. Like IMDB. Reviews of new and old books important. New ones are being published frequently, especially on gender issues in cinema. A metacritic of books and magazines is envisaged. Anyway, watch this space. At least I thought I could transfer my .eu to an EU citizen who could hold it in their name for my future use. Alas, I spent about 1,600Euros, now gone.
Your website is the most complex website this side of a financial site. You need to create a complete flowcharts of what you need and not just toss out this and that and like this or that. That would be the "pre-production" work for the site. Then after and only after that is complete, Google "hire a dev for a CMS website". Post the flowchart and you'll get bids. It will be amazingly expensive to do what you just randomly threw out. Oh, lastly, this is not the place to post website work, or in movie speak, "These aren't the droids you are looking for, move on, move on..."
What kind of help?

Gil, why don't you just try websites like wordpress, wix, or squarespace? easy to set up and you could just do it yourself within 1-2 days

Gil Coats Outside my area of operation at the moment, but thanks. I am curious, what exactly are you selling? Access to the database?

Gil Coats That sounds an awful lot for a simple domain name. I hope you work out your strategy and business plan. Best of luck.
your website is most confusing and I have no idea how it relates to writing - it is just a bunch of phrases and quotes.
