Has anyone who made a short film used a contract template that they thought was good? I'm mostly having friends or their friends participate, but still feel I need a contract. thanks!
The LA law firm of Donaldson, Callif and Perez has a book with a CD rom that contains contracts. I have used their templates widely. The American Bar Association’s Legal Guide to Independent Film Making on the education link of their website: https://donaldsoncallifperez.com/books/
You can write on google the document you are needing + studio binder and it usually takes you to the right place. This is one for actors for example: https://www.studiobinder.com/blog/complete-guide-actor-release-form-template/
I would contract - even with your close friends. In the big picture, it's just paper. In the little picture, when money and promises become involved it can get weird. A contract makes it upfront and easy to understand terms for everyone, leaving friendships intact! I see Studio Binder has been mentioned, and I'm a fan of it as well!
Love this thread and all the good advice. Yeah, especially talent releases and making clear about the payment (or lack thereof) and credit is so important to be upfront about.

Thanks, Phillip! That sounds great but I just clicked and it's now over 100 dollars on Amazon. maybe there is another place to get the templates?

And only one left as Amazon reports. Guess that's why the price is so high. You could e-mail the firml.
Studio binder looks like a good management tool. Didn't see any contract templates, but could be useful otherwise.

Thanks Cherelynn, I completely agree. Have some sample agreements. Will keep it simple but lay out basics so we are all on the same page.
