It's primarily based in NC and you could use the old textile mills to film at. I really enjoyed it, but too slow a script writer to adapt this and the lead is a 40+ male actor though the cast is diverse. Thought would pass it along for someone as it ticks a lot of distributor boxes for scifi genre, family film, horror, spy thriller, social activism, etc. without blowing the budget on special effects. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BGT21WH/
Hi Dara,
I'm not sure what you mean when you say 'pass it along for someone'?
Anyone who wishes to adapt this into a screenplay would need to secure the rights.
Thanks Eoin O'Sullivan , I assumed most writer's can do a chain of title form. Erik is a local east coast guy with an online website https://www.erik-a-otto.com/ you can contact him directly. He seems interested in getting stuff made more than anything else, so he'd probably work with a screenwriter/indy production team provided they were willing to MAKE the feature. I don't think you would need a large advance to secure the rights up front. I do costumes, but loved the story and it seems really timely with the larger discussion documentaries coming out right now. I was hoping that a local writer, ideally over 30+, bonus married at some point, might pickup up the novels, read them and give the writer a shout-out since this book series actually has a chance of being made and having commercial break-out potential. I see so much scifi that goes no where and this seems....like something that's saying something actually important and if made well could help a lot of people's careers. Good stories have lots of fathers.
Dan MaxXx , I totally get that, but the book series has already won a number of awards and has reviews on Amazon. It's a great story. My husband and I both read a couple hundred scifi films/scripts a year....and this was one that was like...wow, this is made for an indy east coast film crew to shine on. Darn, I really hope someone local makes this. I do costumes/fashion sewing, it'd take me 2+ months to even bang this out as a basic script and it would be questionable crap. The author doesn't deserve me butchering their work. I'm also not a guy. My thought was maybe there's a script guy out there who would read this, love it, and adapt it. There's no shortage of stories on the market. There's a shortage of stories with great potential. I could see a family guy, especially one with kids, doing well on this in terms of finding the emotional honesty to drive this story. I see male friends with kids worry about what the internet is doing to their children. How do you deal with that? This film has a market. An indy film that would do well with an indy production company/director. Especially one out of Atlanta, Wilmington, or NYC. Look, this an east coast author talking about manufacturing/mill towns and the author interest is in having the film actually made. This is a scifi genre film that could be made on a small budget and still look great/win an actor/director some awards. Being from NC and great story it seems like something a 40+ male director would have FUN making. The cast and crew would have FUN making. The locations would be basically free for permits so you could put more money on the screen and have a good chance of completing even on a microbudget level. Saying something meaningful in a fun way is worth passing along in the business and is good press. Now, maybe I'm wrong. Fine with that. Still like the book.
