With over 25 years in the entertainment industry, I've tried my hand in a lot of roles. I started in wardrobe/costume design, and then went into makeup and special effects (finally got a Daytime Emmy Nomination in 2020), as well as various positions in production. A few years ago, I set a "five-year plan" to direct one short film a year for four years and then write and direct a feature. I learned a lot - both dos and don'ts. However, in the end, I came out of it with three award-winning projects - 2 shorts and my feature, FAMILY AFFAIR (www.familyaffairrilm.weebly.com), which is currently making the rounds at festivals. I am currently set to direct a romantic comedy for Leonian Pictures from a screenplay I wrote. It is very nice to meet you!

Hey Robert! Congrats on accomplishing your five-year-plan. Out of curiosity, did you shoot the feature during the pandemic? What was that like? I produced a pilot (9-day shoot) this past June, and in retrospect it was perfect timing, because it was before Delta and right when things were feeling "safe". What was your production like?

Hey Matthew. Sorry for the long delayed response. Obviously, I really lost track of Stage 32... to answer your question: I shot the film the autumn before COVID entered the scene. We approached this project as a challenge: shoot a feature in 3 days for $5000...and we did! Fortunately, it was the post-production process that was affected by the pandemic most. It seeemed to take forever, and there was no real personal interaction - everything was done online - and it almost felt like I was chasing a runaway horse!

Yeah post can be a beast. Ours took so much longer than I anticipated, and it’s on me because I was the main editor.
Great to meet you, Robert Hensley. Glad you're back in the Stage 32 community. Congrats on the awards! Three days for a feature? Wow! That must've been something to see. Hope you have a great time directing the romantic comedy!
