Getting excited about DaVinci Resolve. Most NLE's are either DANG expensive or platform specific. I just installed Resolve Studio and have been trying things out. So far...loving it! My NLE of choice has been Avid Media Composer for a long time. And though I still love Avid, it costs a chunk of change each year.
Still feeling Resolve out, but planning to use it on the next film. If it holds up, they may have a new convert.

Would love to hear your thoughts on it after you've had some time to play with it. I hope it works well for you! And if you have any questions, I can totally help out (Resolve is our main business)

Oh yeah? Cool, thanks Sam Chambliss. So far I'm figuring out how to do most things that I do in Avid. And I can map all my normal keys as I'm a keyboard fanatic, so that's good. Haven't got into Resolve's version of AMA linking and such. But about to see how that works. With Avid it was so easy to AMA link, transcode to lower resolution DNxHD cut and relink. Hoping it's smooth with Resolve too.

Resolve has had many converts for just this reason - high functionality with reduced costs. That monthly Adobe subscription is a pain for sure.

Sam Chambliss I'm in post audio and score for film and broadcast. I work mostly in Cubase Pro 10.5 and Protools 11.3. I just started a feature that was posted in Resolve. And the sound is all production audio. It sounds pretty good coming from a PC based Resolve system. The editor didn't touch the sound (TY audio god) .The problems we had were in hand off to me. Exporting an AAF for a Protools DAW is tricky. careful about naming files and tracks.

Thanks for the heads up Jim Rieder. Yeah, exporting from Avid for ProTools was always bullet proof. But I can deal with minor issues if it means not paying for Avid every year. Part of me hates saying that, as I have loved Avid and the NLE has been with me on pretty much every film I've cut or done. But money is money. And I'm using Black Magic cameras now too, so it just makes sense.

I hear you about $$. Always an uphill battle in this biz. get the latest plug to get more gigs to get the latest plug or software. On & On. If you're using V.17, it's pretty solid. V.16 has issues. Good luck.

I love Resolve. I've been using it for a couple of years now and what's amazing about it that it's stable as hell compared to almost anything else. Haven't lost anything yet, although last year I found a bug that almost lost a whole project but I was able to find a solution with some help from BM.
I mean I'm really impressed by it.

That's good to hear Vital Butinar. One thing I've enjoyed about Avid is STABILITY. Three feature films and a slew of short films and Avid has always shined in the stability department. Part of me hates pulling money from them in order to go to Resolve Studio, but man...I'm not Warner Brothers.

Kyler Boudreau well we thankfully got a license when we bought the Pocket 4K so it didn't cost me anything. But I used the free version even before that. What impresses me the most is that BM actually listens to what features people want and implements them practically in the next version.
Apart from a little struggle with Fusion compared to AE compositing virtually everything is really practically and well done.
I honestly don't feel the need to use any other NLE much. I've worked in Avid and it's grate but I like Resolve better. But as for Premier it's light years ahead of it in my opinion.
There's also this cool feature that you can have the project database on a server and also have the footage on a storage server and have people work on the same project at the same time. This is really great.
