Producing : How do I get a shot of Bigfoot by Wayne Cothron

How do I get a shot of Bigfoot

I've finished a script but before I can shoot it.

I have to have one good shot of Bigfoot

The Bigfoot suits I find on the internet are fake looking and expensive so can anyone think of another way to get this shot or at least tell me where I can find a high quality Bigfoot suit.

Thank you all in advance

Go hang out along the Rogue River, that's the last place I saw him - oh an by the way, his name is Gavin. he doesn't like to be called Bigfoot.

Imma pull a teacher and ask you - what options have you considered for making this shot happen? It's clear you've already eliminated a CGI bigfoot, but what has convinced you you need a suit?

Also, you said one "good" shot. Is that shot a close-up or a long-shot or a wide shot? Should we see a facial expression or is this like a "Signs" reveal?

Wayne Cothron

I don't think I have the money or the technical expertise for a CGI Bigfoot, as for the shot it's just meant to be the last shot of the film to reveal Bigfoot.

Weather it will be a close shot or a long one will have to do with the quality of my Bigfoot

If you don’t have the budget you would prefer, find a creative way to do it that turns your limitations into an advantage. Audiences will likely remember your story more than your creature effects. Also, lots of film-used props look pretty terrible when you actually see them up close.

Something to consider is lighting. If you really need to have bigfoot on screen, try and get some lighting setup that will help mask the bad parts if there are any.

And to go in another direction: Consider implying Bigfoot. Maybe you just show a very imposing, hairy shadow walk into frame on the floor or a wall. And use SFX to back up the scary. Remember that showing less could help the audience imagine more.

I saw him sittin' on the dock of the bay yesterday!

Hey, Wayne - I think you need to build your shot list before you go looking for a suit. Honestly, if it's a long shot or wide shot, the cheap suit will do just fine. But keep in mind- Jaws got BETTER because they couldn't show the shark. So I challenge you to come up with shots that are quality reveals that may not require the full suit or use the full suit but don't give away how cheesy it looks.
