I was just curious if anyone knows the best way to find an investor in getting my screenplay filmed. I have a producer and actress already lined up. And another actress willing to be a part of it.
James I am assuming your producer is a line producer. They know how to organise stuff. but are not connected to financing.
I know some producers that are always looking for cash. It may be a Tinder producer match up. These money guys will want to own most of it. They may even want to recast it.
You know the old saying “The gold rule is those with the gold make the rules.”
Hey James, this is Karen from the Stage 32 team. I just wanted to let you know I moved your post from Screenwriting to Financing / Crowdfunding, as it fits much better there. Let me know if you have any questions, and all the best to you!
I think you give your screenplay to a director. If he likes your screenplay, he will hire a producer or financer himself. It's best to start a friendship with a film director who matches your taste and thinking. Although I do not know what the cinema culture of your country is.
Attaching talent through an agreement or letter of intent should help attract interest from others who can either connect you with potential financiers directly or move the picture into development through their production company. I agree with Colette "ByFilms" Byfield that the connections of people involved already can be a great asset, especially a producer with completed projects.
The marketability of talent that is already interested and your estimated production budget should tell you where to focus on raising money (i.e., savings, family/friends, peer or equity crowdfunding for a lower budget project with relatively unknown talent, tax credits, loans, investment offerings for higher budget projects with bigger names).
James Arterburn i just had a thought. A filmmaker raised over $20k on the Clubhouse app a few months back. If you’re willing to “go commando” and verbally interact with a bunch of strangers you might be able to raise something as well. Clubhouse accepts donations. Let me know what you think!
James it takes money to make money. By the time you spend wheels, a couple years trying to raise money for your script you will be surprised how much you will have spent. Connect with some independent filmmakers , college kids ,in your area and pool your resources to make a movie. If it is good and gain access into a major film festival chances are it will launch your career.

I once heard someone say Dentists all want to be producers. I have never chased funding. Would your producer be willing to bring in other producers?

Yeah Craig - I've had good success with Dentists on several short films.
James - you've got a Producer already - does he have any money to back up his title, if not, you've got some dead wood.

Hi James Arterburn the best way to find an investor is through research. Here’s a hit list of ways to make your research go faster!
-Decide how much you need.
-Recruit the other people involved in the film to locate interested investors.
-Find films similar to yours and search the credits for the Executive Producers (more than likely they contributed to the movie).
-You may have to do some cold calling and contact friends, classmates, family members and co-workers.
-Hire a Crowdfunding Manager

Your best option is self financing. Unless you have distribution in place chances are the investors will not get a ROI.

If I was able to finance it myself I wouldn’t be asking how I can get it. Am broke.

James Arterburn you can ask our member Johnny K. Wu about that! He interviewed the filmmaker on Youtube.
