Hi guys. Not sure if this is the correct lounge for this question, but as you're my favourite people, I thought I'd start here. In film credits, when we see 'A ........ Film', what does that person have to have done to earn that credit? For example I've just finished a short with an amazing team. I wrote, produced and mostly financed it and we all donated our time to make the film apart from the talent who were paid. The director and editor has written it as his film in the credits. Now I don't mind because I'm just happy to see my film manifested from paper to screen but is it correct? Hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance for your help x

That is not an offical title. It is self indulgent. I would have one in a heart beat. But a person can give one to themselves if the production allows it.

I think an "A.... Film" is for the director. I think it's an unofficial credit like Craig D Griffiths said. Here's an article about Spike Lee. https://screenrant.com/spike-lee-joint-explainer-which-films-count/
lol Vincent Turner

The EP will often get "A______production" credit and the director will get "A film by_______" credit. I negotiated that into a directing agreement so I have the right to claim that. Whether I will or not all depends on how it turns out.
