I did not participate in this, so I only know what was reported.
The show was a group of guests pass through an area with aliens on the loose. The guests are escorted by Marines with pulse rifles. The area the Guests pass through is dark with alarms going off and mild smoke. Aliens swarm around the Guests and drag off some of the guarding Marines. There is a lot of screaming and pulse rifles firing rounds. Finally, after traveling a distance through the factory area the Guests get into a safe area and the experience is over.
It was so intense that a few Guests suffered panic attacks and were immediately evacuated from the stage area. I listened to one Guest describe the experience as so intense that even though he knew it was all pretend it overwhelmed him.
There were, supposedly plans to replicate the Alien Experience in the LA area but it never occurred.
Are there any immersive experiences that do not involve violence, horror, hyper-action, darkness and the like? Other than Dear Angelica (oldie but goodie from Oculus studio), can you point me to them?

I think that War of the Worlds lends itself to the same type of drama.
