Acting : "Acting" in Taiwan by Terrence Sellers

"Acting" in Taiwan

A few weeks ago, I posted about how I filmed a presentation for a tech company in Taiwan. I talked about how I really hated the way they directed me to read the lines, but they loved it. Some readers ended up asking me to elaborate more. The video is now available, so you can see what I mean first hand.

As you will see, my delivery of lines feels unnaturally slow and extremely exaggerated at parts that will probably seem odd to a native speaker of English. But this is often how foreigners are directed to read lines in Asia. I remember many people complaining about the white actors in Squid Game and how they delivered their lines. While I have never done any acting in Korea, I am fairly certain those actors were in the same situation.

Congrats on the gig. It’s not as bad as you made it seem. You made the client happy that’s all that matters.

Shellie Schmals

Hi Terrance, you sound very clear and precise and delivered the message perfectly. Great job! I hope you land more gigs in that market!

GiGi Raines

Hey Terrence! Thank you for sharing more about your experience working on this project. Such a great perspective to keep in mind. Congratulations on the gig! Well done!

Giselle Samson I guess it's one of those you hate your own voice scenarios, because to me it's terrible lol
