I just finished the script for a pilot tv show called TARGETED SOLUTIONS. It is based on the first of a series of books I wrote and am looking for feedback if someone is willing to read it. It is 52 pages long. I am now working on the second episode and probably have at least a ten-episode series on my hands if the first is worth submitting. I just wanted some feedback before attempting to submit it.

Here's my two cents. I wouldn't spend time writing subsequent episodes. I believe your time would be better spent crafting a show Bible with a subnopsis of each of your 10 episodes. Three to five paragraphs for each synopsis should do the trick. I would also have character descriptions and a series log line and synopsis. Try to limit your Bible to no more than 15 pages. These days, readers have short attention spans. If you can't sell your pilot and your show bible, what's the point in writing 10 complete episodes? Best of luck with your project.

I agree with Phil. In my experience, the pilot script is the most important episode to write and focus on. Sometimes, not saying you, I have seen creators write a full season and, in doing so, keep a lot of meaningful story lines and dynamics for episodes 2 and beyond. Executives, reps and talent only read the pilot and base decisions on that script. They don’t respond to “but in episode 6 the big thing happens”. I recommend packing everything that matters into your pilot script and accompanying it with a Pitch Deck that lays out the vision for the rest of the season and beyond. Even if the pilot eventually gets accordioned out with some elements coming later in series, put it all into the pilot and set up the series, character goals and dynamics, et al. That will give any series its best opportunity IMHO. Wishing you great luck with it!

Sam: you're 100% right. A pitch deck is an essential marketing tool if you're going to sell a pilot.

So, a history for the characters and a brief symopsis of how the series would play out in each episode. That sounds easy enough. The Series is based on a set of four books I've written with these characters so I alreayd have a cohesive storyline set up. I've downloaded and studied the script for the SOPRANOS pilot and think I've got a pretty good script. I was hoping someone would volunteer to take a look at it and give me some feedback.

Interesting, David, because I have a finished pilot based on first book in my 8-novel Crime Series. I am straight out so I unfortunately couldn't give you a fair amount of time to read yours. For both of us, now for the hard PART--marketing our pilots! Good Luck, Jed.
