Introduce Yourself : New Kid on the Block by Jordan Smith

Jordan Smith

New Kid on the Block

Hey Everyone! I'm an aspiring screenwriter that (as of yesterday) has just joined Stage32! I am looking for any other screenwriters out there who are wanting to connect, toss some ideas around, and support one another on this journey. I hope to gain knowledge first and foremost from this website but maybe land a deal or two eventually lol. Looking forward to meeting some great people and best of luck to everyone currently pursuing their dreams!

Welcome! Wouldn't mind a brainstorm session! Are you leaning towards tv or film right now?

Jordan Smith

Hi! At the moment both... I'd prefer not to choose between the two, but I feel I have more inclination to venture into feature film scripts rather than TV. However, my best material that I've written (in my opinion) is a TV pilot. How about you?

Samuel Lebow

Personally I'm more inclined towards TV myself, but I am open to film if it's the right avenue for a story. As far as I'm concerned, you do what's best for your story. There also doesn't have to be a choice between the two mediums. They both have their merits.

Jordan Smith I am leaning towards television right now. However, I have a stronger feature than my pilot currently. Every time I think about the potential world of the television series I get excited about the fun to be had writing it. The genre I'm leaning in to is comedy right now, how about you?

Maurice Vaughan

Welcome to the block, Jordan. Here's a great blog about navigating Stage 32 for your best experience: www.stage32.com/blog/navigating-stage-32-for-your-best-experience-3095

Maria Restivo Glassner I'm the same way. I already have mapped out character arcs and a pretty amazing (IMO) way the series would go from my Television Pilot. The pilot is more of an action/drama/sci-fi. I wouldn't say I have any preferred genre I like to right in. I just think of all the movies that I like so much and will move around depending on the idea I have for that day.

Maurice Vaughan Thanks appreciate it!

You're welcome, Jordan Smith.

Jordan Smith that's cool! A lot of stuff nowadays seems to be mixed genres, which is that much harder to master! I recently got The Anatomy of Genres. Definitely a good resource, especially if you are mixing genre.

Matthew Anthony Williams

Your first name is Jordan and your title was “New Kid on the Block.” As an OG Blockhead, that captured my attention. Ha! Welcome to Stage 32. I’ve been here since 2012 and I’m looking forward to collaborating on more creative projects.
