Hi everyone, I’m Dennis. I’m developing my first feature script called If I Only. It’s a character-driven story about choices, fate, and the consequences of “what if” moments in life. The main character, Mike, is faced with pivotal decisions — whether to chase fast money, gamble on luck, or stay grounded. Each missed turn becomes a reflection on how a single choice can change an entire life. The story is personal, real, and rooted in the struggles many people face trying to break cycles while still being pulled by them. It’s not just about the streets — it’s about family, loyalty, and redemption. I’m here to connect with other writers, producers, and filmmakers who are passionate about telling grounded, authentic stories. If you’ve worked on projects that balance grit and heart, I’d love to connect, share ideas, and learn. Looking forward to building with this community! —Dennis

Welcome to the community, Dennis Reynolds. Your book sounds interesting. Are you planning to write it into a script after you finish, or do you plan to hire a screenwriter?

I was told every tv series and movie starts with a book. I have a rough draft of the first chapter. It shows the life of Mike Veil and how he starts seeing a therapist. And through his therapy, you hear his story. I don't have a screenwriter. I have a vision, though, and the level of perseverance and redemption, fatherhood, and ultimately changing his life for the better.

Hey, Dennis Reynolds. Your book sounds interesting. Many series and movies start as books.
If you're looking to hire a screenwriter to adapt your book, you can ask around in the Screenwriting Lounge (www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting) and search the Browse Section (www.stage32.com/people?name=&location=&roles=Screenwriter). If you are going to hire a screenwriter, I suggest checking out this blog (www.stage32.com/blog/how-to-adapt-a-novel-into-a-screenplay-the-author-s...).
If you're going to adapt your book yourself, Stage 32 has webinars that can help: www.stage32.com/webinars?search=adaptation

Hi Dennis, this sounds like an inspiring story! You should think about making some decisions about how you want to start. Do you want to have a complete book, get it published, and then do a screenplay? Do you want to write the book and screenplay, get a ghostwriter or sell the story rights? Once you've got a general idea of how you'd like to do it, you can always change your mind later, but at least you'll have some goals to start striving for.
