Introduce Yourself : Still writing by Jerry Smith

Jerry Smith

Still writing

I have a total of 12 screenplays. Most of them are based off my life. The smallest and skinniest of 7 boys in the family, I was sort of forced to fight. Not a problem; it seems that I like to fight. It also appears that I don't like drugs. Took my first bus ride to NYC at the age of 16. That was in the 70s when, for all intent and purpose, drugs were legal in NYC.

Drug addicts, dealers, muggers, and rapists; they were all my target. With over 400 fights under my belt, In 78; Ed Koch became mayor and allowed his police force to do their jobs. Still wanting to fight, I became a professional kickboxer. It was a rude awakening; street fights last about 8 seconds. In the ring; round after round; adds up. I lost my first few fights and knew something had to change.

I studied physics, physiology, kinesiology, and busted my ass; within a year, I was rated one of the top 10 fighters in the world. Check out "The Brawl at the Taj Mahal" on Youtube. I flew around the world fighting champions. In South Africa, in 1991, I met up with a fighter who was supposed to be the best, pound for pound fighter in the world. I knocked him out in 93 seconds.

I became a key note speaker for an anti-drug program called Network 3. After one of my talks (which was mostly talking about my life in the streets), I was approached with, "You've got to write a book! Those stories are incredible!" So, I started to write; My first screenplays was a trilogy of screenplays about my life in the streets of NYC fighting a REAL drug war.

Lucky for me I've led an amazing life which gives me a lot of material from where I get my ideas. So, to sum it up; I've got 12 complete screenplays. From Action/Adventure, Mystery, Drama, Family, and a Faith Based story I wrote, inspired by the passing of my Mom. She's always been my inspiration. Everyone who reads "Long Road", ends up in tears.

I guess that's about it.

Hi Jerry Smith , very nice to meet you. Thank you for sharing your story. It blew me away!

Jerry Smith

not sure how this works. I'm guessing we could help each other out. (I could teach you how to fight; my specialty) Just kidding, of course. What would the next step be? Would you want to read some of my work? Your call. Nice meeting you, as well.

Maurice Vaughan

Wow, Jerry Smith. You lived the real-life version of movies like "Fighting" and "Lionheart."

Lori Lee Peters

Amazing story and you manage to keep a sense of humor!!

Jerry Smith

Lori Lee, I've lived, off and on, in the streets for a few year (my choice) I figured my warped sense of humor is what keeps me going. Without the tough times, we really can't appreciate the good times.
