Stage 32 + Catalyst Studios Empowering Women Script Competition

Stage 32 has partnered with Catalyst Studios to launch a first-of-its kind screenwriting contest for feature films with a focus on social impact!

The contest is open to feature film scripts by women and non-binary filmmakers of any and all genres that bring awareness to a current issue or progress society forward with innovative thinking that doesn’t fall into typical patriarchal views and conditioning.

The winning writer will receive a guaranteed $5,000 option for their script and is eligible for up to $3,000,000 in financing from Catalyst to be produced. And the Catalyst team will work with the writer on development, Stage 32 will support the script development through education, and Berlinale Managing Director Mariette Rissenbeek has signed on to mentor the winner.

NOTE: SAG-AFTRA and WGA members aren't eligible to submit during the strikes, but the contest will be open to everyone after their respective strikes are over. Catalyst is non-signatory.

My script, "Fragile Kay" features a rejection of patriarchy and the enhancement of women by relationships with women, not men. But, I can't enter this competition.

Craig D Griffiths

No Peter, you are like me. A white dude.

We have leveraged the wealth of the world for several centuries. I believe it may be okay to allow others to have an advantage I don’t get. That little sting you may be feeling is what the entire world has been feeling.

If you are cool with this competition, we’ll done. Helping under represented writers normally brings out a swarm of privileged people crying foul.

Sam Sokolow

This is such a great opportunity for community members. Thanks for sharing, Maurice Vaughan!

Craig D Griffiths

Yep. Sorry. Thanks Maurice.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, @Sam Sokolow and @Craig D Griffiths.
