Attacking a 2nd Draft! Tips & Inspo

What’s up, scribes?! If you’re reading this just know that I wish you well and much continued productivity and success in your writing goals.

I don’t post much here (social media overall) because I’m super busy honing my craft offline.

That said, I just wrapped the first draft of a feature and I’m taking a few days or more away from it so I can let it breathe (and I can watch bball lol).

Question: does anyone have any tips on how to best attack a 2nd draft? I have my own ideas/process but I’m always open to learning some new approaches!

Cheers,

B.

Congratulations on the finishing the first draft, Blair W. Milbourne! I suggest breaking the rewrite into categories. I think it's easier than tackling everything at once.

Here's how I rewrite a script: A Story, B Story, Subplot(s), Character Arc, Dialogue, Track (I go through the script tracking character behavior, important items, etc.), Visualize (I visualize the script, which helps me find story issues, think of things to add to the script, write better action lines, etc.), and sometimes other categories.

Maurice Vaughan thank you very much for this sound advice.

You're welcome, Blair W. Milbourne.

Blair W. Milbourne After taking a day or two away from the script, I normally re-read the whole draft start to finish and make written notes as I go. Then i take another day or two away from it for further reflection and analysis and I go through and incorporate my own notes.

Nick Phillips I appreciate your advice, Nick! Duly noted. Thank you for taking the time to share it.
