Hi,
How do I make meaningful connections with actors? I'm afraid of coming off that I am using someone just to get information on how they got where they are in the industry. What do I say when I want to know someone who knows someone?
I am still in the beginning stages of acting.
I appreciate whatever advice I am given.

Yes, I don't have too many clips on my backstage account, but I am working on training. I realize I need to put even more effort into my reels.

Very good points, Phillip. And as in so many situations, actually listening to the other person and asking them follow-up questions will be appreciated by who you're talking with and typically brings you interesting and helpful information. And more solid connections.

Eileen, I totally understand where you’re coming from—it can be intimidating reaching out to seasoned actors without seeming opportunistic. One tip I have is to engage with their work first; comment thoughtfully on their posts or join discussions in the other Stage 32 Lounges where they participate. This way, you’re part of an ongoing conversation rather than just a one-off message.
Also, Stage 32 offers a lot of events and education that can help you build genuine connections. For example, check out our weekly Ask Me Anything events and webinars, where industry professionals share their journeys and advice. These settings make it easier to ask questions like, “How did you build your network in the industry?” or “What strategies helped you break in?” framing it as a learning opportunity rather than just a cold approach.
