Your Stage : Almost there. Almost. by Deborah Bete

Deborah Bete

Almost there. Almost.

I’m in that strange, silent phase where you know the script is almost done, but also that every cut, every pause, every line you touch now has to earn its place or vanish.

I’m rewriting. Trimming. Polishing.

Getting my script ready for the Film Independent Screenwriting Lab.

It’s raw. It's personal. It’s the closest I’ve ever been to something that matters this much.

No backup plan. Just a first draft that became a map.

Let’s see how far I can take it.

Philipp Müller

Sounds exciting, I have had the same where you struggle with what to keep and what to drop. Keep going and just follow your gut.

Maurice Vaughan

Hi, Deborah Bete. I’m a Stage 32 Lounge Moderator. I wanted to let you know I moved your post from the Screenwriting Lounge to the Your Stage Lounge. The Your Stage Lounge is a space where members can share updates on projects. If your update mentions a service you used on Stage 32, it's an update for a Stage 32 event, your post starts a conversation that’s helpful/educational to the community (like giving advice or asking a question), or you're asking for feedback on something, you can put it in one of the main Lounges. Let me know if you have any questions.

I know what strange, silent phase you're talking about. Congratulations on getting close to finishing your script! I hope the Lab goes great!

Hi Maurice Vaughan thank you for the heads-up and for moving it to the right place. Much appreciated.

And yes, that “silent phase” is a strange little bubble… equal parts fear, thrill, and obsessive comma hunting.

Thanks again for the kind words and for keeping the Lounge so welcoming.

All the best from this side of the Atlantic.

Deborah Bete

Thanks Philipp Müller it’s that strange dance, isn’t it? Trimming while trying not to kill the pulse.

I guess we all learn to cut with a scalpel, not a chainsaw… even if sometimes both feel equally brutal.

Let’s keep trusting the gut and hoping the story forgives us.

Cheers from Paris.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Deborah Bete. Hope you have a great weekend!
