Anything Goes : Going With The Flow by Freyja Seren (she/her)

Going With The Flow

I was reading RB's coffee and content from the weekend and it contained the story of how Jaws was made. It sparked a line of thinking for me around the idea of "going with the flow". I love the philosophy of going with the flow, but I've struggled with how to align that with fighting to be heard, essentially, or how to keep going with a project when it seems odds are stacked against it. Listening to Spielberg's struggles with getting Jaws made and his determination to keep going got me thinking that maybe there are two types of flow; the internal and the external. Sometimes they align and that's a beautiful thing, isn't it? When what you want to do is what the world wants you to do, you can feel like there's nothing stopping you. But most of the time, they don't - our internal flow is running against the tide of societal norms. "I wanna make a movie about a giant shark" and the whole world is saying, "That'll never sell. Just stop." At those moments we need to make a choice. Do we go with our internal flow or allow ourselves to be swept away by the societal tide? The caveat is that depending on what your internal flow is saying, it may require a conversation with your therapist, but sometimes the struggle against the tide can make incredible things happen.

You're right, Freyja Seren (she/her). Sometimes the struggle against the tide can make incredible things happen. That's when we get unique movies, shows, etc.
