Day 10 of Stage 32’s 30-Day October Challenge – Share my Goal

One of my goals for the 30-Day Challenge is finish rewriting a Horror Action feature script.

What's your goal for the Challenge? How's your goal going?

And you can still join the Challenge. Download the 30-Day October Challenge sheets here: www.stage32.com/blog/take-this-30-day-october-challenge-level-up-in-reco...

Billy Kwack

Hi Maurice, I went to comic con yesterday, still tired. Going to get back into writing again next week

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, Billy Kwack. Great. Keep me posted on the script. I'm looking forward to hearing what it's about!

Michael Dzurak

A redraft of a script... I have my redone beat sheet, so 30 days for the rewrite should be easy...

Billy Kwack

Hi Maurice, cool, I will, can't wait for Sunday football

Maurice Vaughan

Congratulations on redoing the beat sheet, Michael Dzurak! I'm rooting for you to reach your goal for the Challenge!

Maurice Vaughan

My main team the Eagles are struggling, but I think they'll bounce back, Billy Kwack. Do the Lions play Sunday?

Billy Kwack

Hi Maurice, yes, against the chiefs 8:20pm

Lauren Hackney

Ahhhhhhh horror!!!!! Well done @maurice! You are one talented creative

Maurice Vaughan

Hope the Lions win, Billy Kwack!

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks, Lauren Hackney. I appreciate it. I mainly write Horror and Action, but I'll write Comedy, Rom-Coms, Drama, etc. too. What's your favorite genre(s) to write?

Billy Kwack

Thanks Maurice, me too

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Billy Kwack. I'm taking a break from writing today and waiting for the Oregon Indiana game to come on. Oregon is my second college football team.

Billy Kwack

Hi Maurice, I watch college football, I don't follow it. Go Oregon

Lauren Hackney

Maurice Vaughan I like family, animation, drama and rom-com. Both feature films and novels. I'm too much of a scaredy cat to write horror. You're incredibly diverse!

Maurice Vaughan

Yeah, Billy Kwack. Go Oregon! Do you remember the game NFL Blitz?

Maurice Vaughan

What about writing a Family, Animation, Drama, or Rom-Com script or novel with a little Horror, Lauren Hackney?

Billy Kwack

Hi Maurice, was that for the Sega Genesis?

Maurice Vaughan

The NFL Blitz I played was on Playstation or Nintendo 64, Billy Kwack. There are different games. Here's the trailer for the Xbox 360 game: https://youtu.be/YcI9cMG8Lv8?si=r20BRTzeGYFI08gX

Billy Kwack

Hi Maurice, I had those consoles before, cool I'll check it out

Lauren Hackney

That's certainly a way to spice things up... a horror rom-com. Or as many as my friends call it - marriage! bahahaha

Philip Lee

Maurice Vaughan So who is asking you to rewrite what you have? I think to rewrite a screenplay 100 times is ridiculous. As a screenwriter, you have to have some visualization in your head of what's going to be on the screen and if you think it's going to look cool, then it most likely will. You are a fan of certain people in the industry and they are successful because they have a fan base. That's all you have to do is create a fan base. Now if some "producer" is telling you what to do, unless his suggestions actually make sense, well then, there's one finger on your hand that would be an appropriate response. Likewise, if you want to add something to your script you, yourself, feel would improve the story, then go for it. Rewriting because it's the "industry standard" to rewrite something 1,000 times is just not good for anyone's confidence in their initial work.

So don't put pressure on yourself for no reason and if a story needs a complete rewrite, you should either start from scratch or really take a long hard look at it to figure out if it's worth writing in the first place. Just saying.

Maurice Vaughan

It's a fun game, Billy Kwack. I'd like to write a Fantasy Sports script one day.

Maurice Vaughan

Haha A Horror Rom-Com sounds interesting, Lauren Hackney!

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks for the advice, Philip Lee. It's a spec script. I've been rewriting it for a while in between ghostwriting jobs and other projects.

Michael Reeves

Hey Maurice, love that you’re working on a Horror Action feature — that combo really opens up space for both adrenaline and atmosphere. I’ve been deep in a similar lane myself, finishing a dramatic thriller script based on true events that led to my ICE detention and the upcoming documentary Eyes in the Sky.

I might actually take the 30-Day Challenge too — it’s a great way to stay disciplined and connect with other writers grinding through rewrites. Wishing you luck on your draft — would love to compare notes sometime on horror structure or pacing once you’re in rewrite mode.

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, Michael Reeves. "that combo really opens up space for both adrenaline and atmosphere." Definitely!

Glad you're taking the 30-Day Challenge! I'm rooting for you to finish your script!

"Wishing you luck on your draft — would love to compare notes sometime on horror structure or pacing once you’re in rewrite mode." Thanks. Yeah, that'd be great. I might make some Lounge posts about those things too.

Billy Kwack

Hi Maurice, I watched it, it was cool. Never seen it before
