Aspiring Author and Screen Writer
Hello! A few years ago, I attended John Zurr Platten and Flint Dille’s class on writing for Video Games, and came up with a concept for FIRE and Fur, a franchise style IP with the potential to be a video game, a book series and animated tv series. Since then I have been developing the video game pitch, working on the first book, and recently taking advantage of Stage 32 pitch feedback opportunities for the animated tv/ streaming pitch. I have had wonderful experiences with getting concept art from human artists and concept music from OPB musical (Off the Beaten Path Musical) while I have worked on the writing portions of bringing this concept to life.
Logline:
Introverted, land-lubber, Cat-dragon Jai collects and bonds with a personal horde of treasured “marvelous misfit” humans on a privateer ship and in port towns while hunting chimera-like rat-hybrids bred as weapons of war during a fantasy interplanetary conflict.
Historical Inspiration:
Ship Cats that served as mousers on naval vessels and in the trenches during the wars of the 20th century.
Cat-Dragons aka: Drakkots, Ryu-neko, or Felis Draconis
Toothless from HTTYD is a western dragon with cat like personality and features. The cat-dragons of FIRE and Fur are the mirror image - start with recognizable cat breeds like Siamese, Russian Blue and the Maine Coon and combine with aspects of Eastern dragons like the Ryu and the Loong (e. Haku in Spirited Away).
Swashbuckling “Sail Punk” Adventure in a Fantasy Solar System
Star Wars Empire x British East India Company inspired Planet Pentanull has invaded and conquered Planet Zoeveda. An ancient alliance causes the remaining five planets of the solar system to band together against Pentanull. After several years of “Age of Sail” style war, the Royal Elemental Alliance Planets (R.E.A.P) licence privateers to expand their forces. The ship Jai is the mouser on turns Privateer due to this initiative and joins the fight, bringing her into the conflict. Good thing they did as Pentanull creates chimera-like rat-hybrids to target food supplies, spread diseases, and damage the Royal Elemental Alliance Planets forces. Ship Cat-dragons are now a critical line of defence!
IP Comparators:
FIRE and Fur is at the center of a Venn diagram of the IP’s Flow, Pokémon, One Piece (Seasons 1-2), Star Wars, Firefly, How To Train Your Dragon, Pirates of Dark Water, and Avatar the Last Airbender. Or to put it another way, FIRE and Fur can be described as Flow crossed with Pokémon meets One Piece Seasons 1-2 crossed with Star Wars.
I love a good story regardless of the medium, and am a particular fan of cartoons, anime, donghua, manga and manhwa. Fantasy, science fiction, action, romance and comedy are my favourite genres, especially cross-genre works. I’m happy to connect with others with similar interests! If you love works like Disney’s Gargoyles, How To Train Your Dragon, Avatar the Last Airbender, 1999’s The Mummy, Inuyasha, Yona of the Dawn, Solo Leveling, Soul Land, The Apothecary Diaries, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Thundercats and Star Wars you are my kind of person.

I worked for 16 years in labour relations as a Classification Analyst (Job evaluation specialist) working with Paramedical professional staff (EMTs, Psychologists, Lab techs, Physiotherapists, etc.). I have literally put 30 psychologists in a room and asked their opinion. Now my day job is working as a Registered Massage Therapist. In University I worked as an Aquacise and Deep Water Running Instructor. I have participated in an Archeological dig on the island of Antigua as part of a field school. My hobbies include cosplay, dance (middle eastern aka bellydance and ballroom dance), and hiking. If anyone would find discussing these topics useful for their projects I would be more than happy to share what knowledge I can.
I enjoy brainstorming, pitch constructive feedback/ practice, and concept discussions, and am happy to connect over these and offer what help and suggestions I can. I still have a lot to learn and appreciate whatever help and suggestions people can give me as well.

I suggest adding a profile picture of yourself. People will feel more comfortable networking and collaborating with you if they know what you look like. And if you have a picture, your profile will show up when someone searches for you. You can upload a picture by clicking the gear symbol in the top right-hand corner and selecting “Edit profile” in the drop-down menu, then clicking the red button underneath your location and choosing "Update profile picture."

Nice to meet you Sarah Chernik I'm in awe of your wide range of interests and proficiencies! Curious what age range you are intending this for? Is it for adults or kids or both? My six year old would be very interested watching something with a cat dragon in.
