My name is Matt — M-A to the T-T.
Add a double-U after the E.
Matt-E W. Aka M.E.W.
(Yes, that was a Public Service Announcement reference — respect to Jay-Z.)
Hey everyone — I’m Matt-E W, aka M.E.W.
I’m very green in the cinema industry, but don’t get that twisted — I’m not walking in empty-handed.
I bring a highly visual imagination, lived trauma, and a long-standing ability to channel inner chaos into structured storytelling. It’s how I process the world — and how my stories take shape.
The genres I tend to live in are:
• Thriller
• Drama
• Action
• Sci-Fi
• Comedy
• …with a pinch of horror

Continued.. (Stage 32 cut out half of my original post lol)
I’ve been developing a few different projects recently and I’m excited to start sharing them — not just here on Stage 32, but eventually with a much wider audience.
Happy to answer questions, trade ideas, or just connect with fellow creators.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

Well hi M.E.W. welcome to Stage 32! We're glad you're here! Great energy - love it! We seem to write in some of the same genres, so I can't wait to see what you create!

Alright! And now, lass, but not lease.. Maurice Vaughan (haha. See what I did there?) To be more in tune with my professionalism: I enjoy placing well thought out comedy skits in with horror. Not an overwhelming amount, but juuuust enough before a JUMP SCARE!!

Vamsi Tankala I did not forget you! I appreciate the warm welcome. Thank you.
Some comedy in Horror movies helps, Matthew Wach. And Horror Comedies are fun to write and watch. It's a balance with Horror Comedies though. Too funny and it's not scary. Too scary and it's not funny.

Maurice Vaughan PRECISELY!! I was going to mention that Exact dilemma. 0000NNNEEE tiny hair of comedy too much? Ruins a scene, distracts the audience from the narrative, corrupts the scare tactics. So long story short-comedy+horror/precision = perfection. That Is the necessary equation for that to work.
You're right, Matthew Wach. How do you feel about jump scares?

Maurice Vaughan If they are done correctly? I absolutely enjoy them! But done thematically and unoriginally? They become very mundane and boring honestly. If I can predict where your jump scare is coming from (like every horror movie since 2000) then it’s simply NOT a jump scare, it’s just a.. jump.
Example:
Have a character walking down a hallway where he saw something run through? Unoriginal, boring, mundane and painfully repetitive.
Take that same character, have him shoot off a quick quirky comical line, then BAM. Jump scare. That, that is energy, attention intricacy.
The difference there? My equation.
Even with the lack of context, is my jump scare scene not theoretically more entertaining? Comedy isn’t there to deflate fear — it’s there to misdirect the attention. It’s literally the equation I mentioned earlier, in action.
I agree, Matthew Wach! I wrote a post about jump scares (www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting/Jump-Scares-in-the-Insidious-Movies).

Maurice Vaughan Interesting post, I like it. We basically said the same things! That’s great haha.
The “stare at something too long” technique tho? Irritates me personally, the tactic works! My attention span just doesn’t. Lmao.

Matthew Wach Love the introduction. I'm also a fan of thrillers, drama, sci-fi and comedy with a pinch of horror (use to big into horror...not so much anymore lol). Not too sure if anyone above asked but what are you currently working on?

Randall Scott White It sure is! Haha. Funny enough too, took ChatGPT FOUR tries to create that pic because it kept misplacing letters and numbers.
Its a lot of frustration . I have to use , Dyslexic , so spelling grammar and format . then send to my new co wrighter . If I trusted it for story Always a disappointment !

Happy Introduce Yourself Weekend, Matthew Wach! That mix of genres and lived experience can turn your stories into something extraordinary. Looking forward to seeing what you create.
What’s one visual scene from a film or game that has inspired you to create?

Hey Matthew Wach Matt-E W, that PSA reference hit perfectly. Love the creative energy you're bringing. Channeling trauma into storytelling is a recipe most writers do so you're in good company! Welcome to the community and looking forward to seeing what emerges from that visual imagination and controlled chaos!
