IYW Re-introduction for 2026, looking to connect with producers and agents

Hi folks, since it's IYW, I thought I'd re-introduce myself. I'm Chris Watt, a screenwriter and script consultant, based in Scotland.

I wrote the screenplays for feature films STALKER (2022, a horror thriller starring Outlander's Sophie Skelton and BAFTA winner Stuart Brennan, which premiered at Frightfest and then went onto a cinema release Stateside, and is available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital) and THE MIRE (2023, a thriller about a cult leader on the eve of a mass suicide, which had a sold out premiere in 2023, before a digital release on PrimeVideo and Tubi). I also wrote the script for the multi-award winning short film BRUISE (2022, which premiered at the Oscar and BAFTA qualifying Galway Film Fleadh) and the short film THE PURSUIT OF INDEPENDENCE (2025, which played at the NEIFF,  Sunderland Shorts and won Best Scottish Film at the Partick Film Festival).

My third feature film, THE BROOK, which I co-wrote, is currently in post-production.

In 2024, I won the Shore Scripts TV Pilot script Competition for SOUTHBANK, a comedy set in and around the area of London that gives the story its title, while my feature film screenplay, the crime thriller MORGAN'S WAKE was recently a Top 10 Finalist in the Stage 32/Zero Gravity Action Thriller screenplay comp, and was also a Top 5 Finalist in the Shore Scripts Feature Screenplay comp.

I currently have two pilot scripts (both comedies), and three feature screenplays ( a horror and two thrillers) available to option/purchase, while I am in the process of writing two new feature screenplays, that I was commissioned to work on. I work in multiple genres and I am interested in talking to producers and development execs for production companies, who may be actively seeking feature films, or series to develop. I am open to commissions, and also have spent the last two years taking on rewrites of other writer's work, in my capacity as a script consultant, having worked for numerous script competitions and with the BFI Film Academy in Scotland, through the local colleges.

I am currently un-repped, so would also like to speak with agents who may be taking on clients for screenwriting.

I look forward to connecting with you all.

Maurice Vaughan

Hi, Chris Watt. Great to see you at IYW. Congratulations on MORGAN'S WAKE being a Top 10 Finalist in the Stage 32/Zero Gravity Action Thriller screenplay comp and all your success! I watched STALKER on Amazon Prime Video the other week. Incredible job on the script!

Chris Watt

Thank you Maurice! Glad you enjoyed the film!

Elle Bolan

Hi Chris! It's great to meet you and congratulations on the contest and all your successes! I have STALKER on mine and my husband's living room date night movie list! I think it's for two weeks out. Very cool to meet you.

Chris Watt

Hi Elle, lovely to meet you too. I just sent you a follow. And thank you!

Prepare to have your date night ruined

Elle Bolan

Oh I doubt that! And hey, thanks for connecting!

Douaa Bordi

Nice to meet you, Chris. Congratulations on your work and achievements. Wishing you continued success.

Hi Chris, brilliant to find you on Stage32!

You wrote a review and gave some notes on my screenplay, SHADOW IN HAWTHORN BAY as part of its submission to The Golden Script competition:

Excerpt:

"This feature film screenplay is a bold but deceptively old-fashioned drama that has good character work and an intimately epic scope. A sweeping, at times very haunting, drama, extremely well written.”

Not sure if you remember it. The story is of a young Scottish woman with the gift of an dà shellad who travels to the wilderness of Upper Canada in search of her missing sweetheart, only to find upon her arrival he has mysteriously died and must now choose between a second chance at life and love in a community wary of her gifts, or succumb to the dark, life-threatening shadows of her past. .

I really appreciated the kind words and notes you provided as part of the initial competition assessment, which I have acted on.

I myself am now looking for investors and Canadian/UK production partners capable of opening the right doors and finding the funds, so I'm learning of the challenges you have overcome. To that end, I have been working with a London-based development executive and story producer who is an alumni of S32. It's nice to learn more of what you have been accomplishing.

Best for 2026!

Steven

Hi Chris, it’s a pleasure to connect with you here on Stage 32. Your body of work and experience across features, shorts, and pilots is truly impressive, and your focus on both development and collaboration really resonates with us. We’re very interested in connecting with creatives who have a strong storytelling vision and a solid industry background like yours. It would be great to stay in touch and explore potential opportunities to collaborate in the future. Looking forward to following your upcoming projects.

Chris Watt

Steven, I absolutely remember that script. Particularly the character of Mary. Really strong story. Such a small world, but lovely to connect here.

Chris Watt

Hi Sara, thank you, and nice to connect!

Steven R Mitchell

Cheers Chris!

Richard "RB" Botto

Congratulations on all your success, Chris Watt. Great IY post as well. Excited to see THE BROOK.

As for reps, have you connected directly with Geoff and the Development Team here? They've matched hundreds with managers and agents. This is what they do day in and day out. Drop them a line at success@stage32.com

Juliana Philippi

Chris Watt Hello!!! Love, love Scotland! Lots of Scotts coming out this IYW! Very nice to meet you, I'm Juliana Philippi, an actor and screenwriter, also a moderator in the acting and screenwriting lounges here on Stage 32. I mean, your projects, your path...it's just inspiring, and so cool dude. The feel for your scripts, the ones you mentioned here, are the type of thriller I love, I'm just so excited to see someone like you here, and look forward to working on projects like this in the future.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Chris Watt. STALKER kept me guessing. Can't wait to check out THE MIRE!

Chris Watt

Thank you Juliana! I’ll have to check out your own work, nice to connect with you!

Chris Watt

Thank you Richard! And no, I haven’t connected with Geoff, but will certainly drop a message his way. I’ve been at the meetings stage a few times with reps, but so far no luck, so every film I’ve been involved with has been off my own hustle.

Chris Watt

Thank you Douaa, nice to meet you!

Chris Watt

Cheers Maurice, hope you enjoy THE MIRE, I’m really proud of that movie.

Sara Alshahri

Chris Watt

Thank you Sara!

Richard "RB" Botto

Geoff and the team will certainly help you in that regard, Chris Watt
