Hi everyone
I wanted to introduce myself and share what I’m currently working on.
I’m Robert Benjamin, a writer/director. My feature screenwriting debut Bloody Hell came out in 2021, and I’ve been developing new projects since, including a feature called SERIAL.
Right now, I’m raising funds for a short film version of SERIAL through Kickstarter. The goal is very straightforward: make the short at a professional level, prove the tone and execution, and use it as a bridge toward the feature.
I chose crowdfunding intentionally. I want to keep creative control, assemble the right cast and crew, and give the project the time it deserves -- and that requires real resources.
If you’re interested in the project itself, the process, or how I’m approaching crowdfunding as a filmmaker, I’m happy to share more. And if the campaign resonates with you or someone you know, I’d genuinely appreciate you passing it along.
Here’s the campaign:

Good luck! @Robert, sounds like you're taking the right aligned actions. Did you start more on the technical side (directing) or with writing? If directing, how did you transfer to writing? And vice versa if you started with screenwriting.
I'm a screenwriter currently, but I know I'll eventually want to add more skills as I move to the next stages after my scripts are refined.

Hi Robert, welcome to Stage 32.
Love this approach of building a short as a bridge toward the feature. It’s a smart and very filmmaker-driven way to prove tone and execution while keeping creative control, especially with a project like SERIAL.
Congrats as well on Bloody Hell. That’s a great credit to have going into crowdfunding and development. I’m an editor and have worked on a lot of projects that followed a similar short-to-feature path, so I really appreciate how intentional your process sounds.
Wishing you the best with the Kickstarter and the short. I’d be curious to hear more about how you’re thinking about tone and pacing for the proof-of-concept. Looking forward to seeing how the project evolves.

Thanks Ryan Wilford I started as a writer, been writing my whole life, but what usually comes with it is a visual sense and style. Because I can visually see what I'm creating, it's only natural to want to capture it that way. I think the best way is short films. Display your directorial ability.
