Stage 32 Blog Spotlight: Surfing, Dating, and the Film Industry (Yes, Really)

Today’s Stage 32 Blog comes from fellow community member Lauren Hackney, and it’s one of those pieces that sneaks up on you. It starts with surfing, wanders into dating, and somehow lands squarely in the emotional reality of building a career in film.

If you’ve ever stood on the edge of something, wondering if you’re ready, felt the fear before putting your work or yourself out there, questioned whether you’re chasing the right wave, or even standing on the right beach, this one is going to resonate.

Lauren beautifully explores fear, ego, timing, rest, adaptability, and why community matters more than we sometimes admit. It’s reflective, honest, and grounded in real experience, especially the quiet moments no one talks about between the wins.

I highly encourage you to read the full blog, then jump into the conversation in the comments on the article itself. Check it out here: https://www.stage32.com/blog/what-surfing-dating-and-the-film-industry-h...

And let’s keep the discussion going here too. What part of the industry feels like the hardest “paddle out” for you right now?

Drop your thoughts below, support each other, and if the blog hits home for you, let Lauren know.

Must-read blog! Thanks again for writing it, Lauren. The hardest “paddle out” for me right now is pitching live, Ashley Renée Smith!. I'm mainly having problems with nerves and repeating things in my pitches. I need to get back to the Pitch Practices in the Writers' Room so I can practice, and I need to practice more alone.
