Screenwriting : Using (CONT'D) on dialogue -- ? by Pamela Smith

Using (CONT'D) on dialogue -- ?

A client said he'd heard you no longer had to put 9CONT'D) after a character's name if there was a line of action between that and their last speech. // Doesn't make sense to me to drop that industry standard, given that it's vital information for the director, actor, editor, sound recordist.... Anyone else heard anything to that effect? Thanks.

Maurice Vaughan

I've heard of some writers doing that, but not a lot, Pamela Smith. I still use (CONT'D).

those appear. they will appear if you are using a screenwriting software

Thanks, Maurice and Nicholas. Having been in production for many years, it's always been an important thing for the collaborative creative process.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Pamela Smith.

No problem Pamela Smith

Turn off Automatic Character Continueds. It's bloat that garbages up the page, and not needed in a Spec. Return them in the Production draft.

Try it. You'll like the cleaner look.

Thanks for your comment, E.
