My script for the series

While no one has paid attention to my writing and script, I am editing it, trying to do better. In the full scenario, 182 scenes. I don’t know if it’s a lot or not for the script. I’ve been writing this since 2019. And here I am, editing the first scene of my series.

INT. BERNARD AND HEDWIG’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – EARLY 1950s

A beautiful living room in an old Belgian house with a fireplace. A table stands in the center. A fire burns in the hearth. A window overlooks the park.

A well-dressed man stands by the table. His suit is carefully chosen, his hair neatly styled. This is BERNARD (41).

Bernard smooths his hair, walks to the table, picks up a letter, reads it, and frowns. An envelope from America lies on the table.

STACY (V.O.)

Hope you still remember me. Your green-eyed Stacy still can’t sit still. Pity we chose different patrons back then. And yours wasn’t as good as it first seemed. But old connections did their work. I read a letter from a mutual acquaintance and laughed. You outmaneuvered them.

Bernard squints and throws the letter into the fire. He walks to the window, clenching his fists behind his back. He’s not happy about what’s happening. But he can’t silence the voice.

STACY (V.O.)

Bernard, our ancestors’ work mustn’t fade away. We must continue what they began — but differently. Remember what Alexander said? Every action only strengthened the beast. We cut off one head, and four more grow back. Don’t you think we should try another way? We must destroy the foundation of this monster devouring half of Europe. Don’t abandon it. Don’t betray our forebears. Come to me. I have news. I haven’t been idle, even if you never asked. Now I run a fascinating laboratory. Soon we’ll take a leap forward — live forever.

The sound of women’s heels clicking.

From the right enters Bernard’s wife — a beautiful young woman. This is HEDWIG (38). Dark hair, elegant dress, simple jewelry.

She approaches Bernard and tries to place a hand on his shoulder, but he turns away, hiding his irritation.

HEDWIG

Darling, are you all right?

Bernard turns back, hesitates. His wife’s presence doesn’t please him, but he hides it.

BERNARD

Yes. Everything’s fine. I’ll have to leave for a short while.

Hedwig notices the envelope, picks it up, and smiles.

HEDWIG

Stacy. I heard Lord Alexander say she was the smartest woman he knew — that even men envied her mind.

Bernard frowns. He doesn’t like that Hedwig saw the envelope.

BERNARD

Yes. Alexander was proud of her and called her his best disciple. He had a talent for understanding people. Though that girl always knew how to manipulate anyone.

Hedwig looks at him, confused.

HEDWIG

Disciple? Isn’t she from the East? I heard she was born in Russia. Or is that just a rumor?

Bernard shrugs.

BERNARD

Stacy is from the East. I remember her coming to my father when I was only five. Lord Alexander called everyone close to him his friends. He was proud of Stacy as his student and admired her mind. Though she used to say her cunning would someday bring trouble to all her friends.

HEDWIG

Are you sure this won’t cause us problems? The world is getting restless. They say another war may start soon. I’m afraid that nightmare will return. Bernard… I won’t survive fleeing our country again. Have you heard what they’re saying in England?

Bernard takes the envelope from her hand and throws it into the fire.

BERNARD

Don’t worry. It won’t affect us. I’ll make sure our girls are safe. I’ll fly to her.

HEDWIG

Yes… of course. Do as you think best. I’ll take the girls for a walk in the park. There are so many cozy spots there.

BERNARD

Of course. How are they doing?

HEDWIG

Amalia’s fine. She’s a wonderful girl. But Pauline lacks perseverance. She’s too restless. The teachers say she needs something to focus on so she can sit still in class.

Hedwig leaves the room. Bernard watches her go and smiles.
