Writing a feature film treatment is one of the most powerful — and most overlooked — skills you can have as a screenwriter. Before you ever type FADE IN, a strong treatment helps you clarify your story, test its emotional engine, and make sure your idea can sustain a full feature. Just as importantly, it’s a professional tool you’ll be asked for again and again by agents, managers, producers, and executives. If you want your project to move forward, you need to be able to clearly and compellingly communicate your story on the page. The problem is, treatments are where a lot of writers get stuck. You might lean too heavily on plot mechanics and lose the emotional core, or drown your story in detail without a clear structure.
Over five weeks, you’ll move from logline to beat sheet, outline to full treatment, writing your project one piece at a time. You’ll learn how to shape a strong feature structure, develop compelling character arcs, write a professional treatment executives expect to read, and craft an ending that sells your story while leaving room for discovery. By the end of the lab with Davina, you’ll walk away with a complete 10–12 page feature film treatment — and a repeatable process you can use to develop and pitch every feature you write moving forward
