HI! This is a slightly different question because i'm not asking about scriptwriting. One of my dreams is to make a comic book and right now i hired two artists to make two different comics, one I hired and agreed to pay the entire total at the start, then the other I agreed to pay every week. I've been getting a lot of varying information about what is better, so I wanted to ask a group what they think. so what is better? paying per hour or paying all at once?

Honestly, both can work, it just really depends on how clear your agreement is with the artist and how much trust is already there.
Paying everything upfront usually only makes sense when everything is very clearly defined and you’ve already built some trust. The downside is you don’t really have much leverage if expectations aren’t fully aligned from the start.
Paying weekly or per milestone gives you more control and lets you track progress as it goes, but it also requires good communication so it doesn’t start feeling stop-start or overly tracked.
Personally, I think the cleanest approach is somewhere in between. A solid upfront deposit, then the rest tied to clear milestones (like pages, scenes, or completed sections). That way both sides are protected and nobody feels exposed.
And honestly, the fact you’re even thinking about structure like this already puts you in a producer mindset, not just “someone commissioning art."
