Filmmaking / Directing : My July Filmmaking Goal by Lindsay Thompson

Lindsay Thompson

My July Filmmaking Goal

Jumping into July Filmmakers Club with a clear goal: make great progress on the story development for Groove, my feature about racing.

I have a loose first draft at about 70 pages, and this month I want to focus specifically on deepening the character arcs and relationships so the foundation is strong before the script moves forward to anyone else.

I am a cinematographer looking to direct Groove myself, which means part of my July work is also thinking through what I need to find the right producer, someone who will either support me directing or help find a director who will stay true to the heart of the story and keep me in the conversation as it develops.

Anyone else working on a script this month, or navigating the producer search? Would love to hear what you are tackling.

I just finished a huge part of post-production on my feature, so I tried to work on one of my sci-fi screenplays, but it's been to hot these days to do anything worthwhile.

Good luck with your screenplay.

Rosie Lyons

Sounds like you're off to a great start with Groove. Strong character work really is the foundation of a great script. If you ever need a fresh set of eyes on the screenplay or help refining the story, I'd be happy to help. Wishing you the best with both the script and your producer search

What kind of racing is Groove about? (pretend I don't know anything about tyres).

Timika Shondel Chambers

I love the focus on character arcs...definitely something to consider....I appreciate your post. Just reread one of Steven Spielberg's quote about the importance of perseverance....keep working at it to bring out the characters that will make your film shine brilliant!
