When I first started writing Zamora: Sons of the Black Buffalo, I thought I was creating a story.
I quickly realized I was creating a world.
Before writing many scenes, I spent time developing the history of the clans, their traditions, symbols, beliefs, leadership, and the conflicts that shaped their identities.
Every major character was built around a question rather than a superpower:
• What kind of leader would unite divided people? • What does true strength look like? • Can wisdom change the course of war?
As the script evolved, I rewrote entire acts—not because they didn't work, but because I wanted every choice, every sacrifice, and every victory to feel earned.
For me, writing fantasy isn't about creating magic.
It's about creating people, cultures, and decisions that feel real.
