Your Stage : Contradiction by Meriem Bouziani

Contradiction

Hello, creatives!

I hope you’re all doing well.

Let’s welcome my brand-new idea, CONTRADICTION—the little sister of Coherence, Predestination, and Dark.

I’m thrilled to be developing a concept within this puzzle-box, mind-bending territory. I have put my other ideas aside for the moment and started building the story’s complete schema.

What excites me most is how contained it is: only four characters, one major emotional anchor, and a limited number of locations.

I’m gradually learning that not every great story has to involve a global catastrophe or an enormous world. A contained narrative with very few characters can still manipulate time, challenge perception, and play with the audience’s mind in the most powerful way.

What are you currently developing or writing?

Have you ever attempted to write a screenplay within this kind of mind-bending territory?

SCIFISPY

Michael Dzurak

I have a plan for autumn to write a prequel to one of my sci-fi action scripts that will also work as an origin story for one of the characters. It's quite unlike this project of yours, Meriem Bouziani, however this idea sounds very interesting. I'm not one to write it, but I'd read it! Best.

Meriem Bouziani

Thank you very much for your encouragement! I’m so happy that you like the concept. I’ve just added some new twists to the ending.

Best of luck with your prequel as well. It’s fascinating how we can keep developing our stories from just one simple “What if?” Michael Dzurak

I agree, Meriem Bouziani... if we rewind the time or jump back to a key life junction… who knows what life might be? It takes a real Doctor Strange to see all the possibilities, but us writers can surely see enough to pick at least one good one!

Yes, Coherence explored this through Em’s journey. She discovers that other versions of herself are living better lives, so she begins stealing their lives and replacing them. It’s truly fascinating.

Mr. Nobody also explored this idea brilliantly through Nemo’s multiple possible lives. Michael Dzurak

I haven't heard of Mr. Nobody but will check it out. For a wild timeline Gordian knot of a movie, check out 2004's Primer. One of the best indie sci-fi films ever, IMO.

Thank you very much for the suggestion! Primer is absolutely on my list Michael Dzurak

Primer is truly wild if you think about it. I didn't quite get it all on my first watch, so I checked out vlogs explaining it for clarity, but that's kind of the point. It's a story meant to be explored.

Madeline Gouin

Very cool concept! Sounds amazing!

Reminds me of a David Lynch painting! His independent mind was incredibly unique and intuitively out of this world!

Meriem Bouziani

Thank you very much for your encouragement. I'm thrilled that you like it! Contradiction has a lot of plot twists, and I'm really enjoying developing it.

I don't know much about David Lynch yet, but I'll definitely look into his work and learn more about his filmmaking style Madeline Gouin
