I write from emotion. That’s where my inspiration comes from. Which made me wonder: can we authentically compose an emotion we’ve never experienced? Or is imagination enough?
Do you think you’ve ever written something you couldn’t have written until you’d lived through something first?

I mimic what I see in other scripts if it's an emotion I haven't experienced a lot or at all. Recently though, I've been reading up more online.

I think people can authentically compose, write, film, etc. emotions they’ve never experienced, Kat Spencer. They can use their imaginations and research the emotions.
I'm not sure if I've ever written something I couldn’t have written until I’d lived through something first. I use my imagination and do research. Living through things definitely helps too.

There are times when imaginationi is all you can turn to--and it's often the most powerful means of conveying a mood, such as the direction of musical lines, the interplay of consonance and dissonance, and choice of instrumentation.
