Jerk of All Trades... More or Less...

I'm sure I don't belong in the same elite group as you all but even we dreamers need a place to network. Since 2009, I've put out a few YouTube videos and with just 518 subscribers, I can't say I have a ton of fans or I'm the greatest filmmaker EVER...But, my ultimate dream is to make my own films a la Raimi, Rodriguez and even that farm girl in Nebraska with that 8mm camera still plugging away at her first flick. I have a show on YouTube called "Welcome to Russelltopia" showcasing my life so to speak with me babbling on about events that have happened in my life. Funny stuff. Then I do a "cooking show" called The Russelltopia Five MInute Kookin' Skool". More hijinks but this time, I try to teach cooking to anyone wanting to know how to make fish or peanut butter fudge. The list goes on and on but I wanted to tell you all that much like the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, the Grim Reaper, aliens and Elvis, I do exist. Just not the way I'd like. I'm in the process of raising fundage to beef up my studio/equipment roster and I'm hoping to procure a Canon 60D along with other lovely items. Anyway, I've waisted enough of your time. Here I am. Movie maker extraordinaire... some day. :) OH! Wait, I almost forgot. I started screenwriting in 2005 and learned from Blake Snyder most of what I needed to learn as a beginning writer. Save the Cat is really the way to go. I'm [still] on the fourth draft of my script,"How To Conquer Planet Earth (In Five Easy Steps)" and with a little somewhat positive coverage (got a pass but the reader did like what I'd written to that point) I'm still inspired to write more in the not too distant future.

We ALL started with a dream--

But, still dreaming at 42, almost 43 years old? With VERY little support from anyone? Come on. ;P Seriously. I won't stop until I've done SOMETHING with this dream. Even if it's being big on YouTube. That's what a lot of people are doing.

I've been a filmmaker since the 70's, but I didn't shoot my first feature until I was 51. Age is not important. It's not important when you do it, only that you DO.

Bryan Saulsbury

I got the bug just 2 years ago at the ripe old age of 43, it's never too late to do what you love. I wish I knew that at 20! Keep working towards that goal.

Russell Bolding

Fair enough. :) Here's a funny thing. I get up there and do what I do and I just don't let anything like self esteem (I have a pretty close to grody smile but I do what I do in spite of it) get in the way. I mean, really, I have a smile only a mother (or a blind venomous duck) would love. :) BUt, that doesn't stop me. I'm currently shooting with a Kodak Zi8 and the images look pretty good, all things considered. Okay... gotta plug it. My channel is at http://www.youtube.com/russelltopia. Sorry... LOL! Networking. :)

Bryan, thanks, man. I tell ya, it's hard. Trying to juggle little to no sleep and then working nonstop at my "Joe" job and then dealing with other problems... it just never seems to end. But, I've been dreaming of this since I was throwing stuffed animals up into trees and making sound effects of them hitting every branch on the way down pretending they were stuntmen in a movie playing in my head. ;P No, seriously. You don't want to know about the movies playing in my head as I spent my time on the... how do I put this delicately... the "can". Space battles never seemed so... lifelike. :) Never mind.
