Anything Goes : The social network by Roger Harmar

The social network

Having been here for a few weeks now, I'm not really here to collect thousands of social network "friends". What I am here for is to meet real friends, have a proper conversation and perhaps get involved in something interesting. I remember anthropologist Desmond Morris saying that if you look and the number of people who you are in continual contact with from your address book (these were the days when you had a paper address book), there were usually around a 100 people after you discount the people you haven't seen or spoken to for years. This is the natural size of a village community/tribe and you simply cannot stay in regular touch or get to know more than about 100 people at any one time. Collecting friends is not my thing :-) R
