As I enter this wonderful crazy field of filmmaking I am finding that investors like to have you lied up with a distribution company which in turn wants a finished product. I realize several distribution companies have their own in house production but usually not the norm. I just wondered what anyone's experience is regarding picking up financing without having distribution in place. I'm eager to film, almost rabid, and want to get moving. Any insight would be appreciated, merci!
Are you asking about investors or donations? The harsh reality is your first film will most likely self financed. Meaning you and people who know you and believe in you. The way you pick up financing also depends on your business plan. Do you have a full, complete, line-item budget finished?
I tried donations already and that hasn't yielded much. I do have a preliminary budget as detailed as can be at this point along with paperwork drawn by my lawyer for potential investors to buy into shares. I'll either have to push more for donations or sling ahead with seeking investors.
