Paying a Producer

Hi Jennifer. The job of the Producer is to find the money and you get a fee for him optioning the rights or a purchase agreement. You don't pay the producer, unless you're very wealthy and want to keep full control yourself and act as Assistant or Executive Producer. I've been studying the role of Producer for my own TV series this year and it's a lot of work being a Producer. The Producer is usually on the Above the line costs when budgeting for a Production and he/she usually gets a Production Manager to help with the budgeting as well as a 1st A.D. who times the scripts. His fee varies depending on the budget and it's usually a percentage of it. Hope this helps
