oh ok. I meet the requirements for the job. The jobs i applied to were entry level positions.

That's a good start. Meeting people in person is another one. No one is going to stake their reputation in the business based on a random request - but doing that first reach out is great! Since there are so many people trying to get in, your relationships with others is key.
