Talent or Happiness? Which would you choose?

In a world where you can catch a disease that gives you incredible creative talent but makes you profoundly depressed, would you take the cure and restore your happiness, or stay diseased and talented? Robbie Merritt is the latest creator to contribute to our blog for the Catching Sight world. The fine arts photographer partook of a written interview which is available for you to enjoy now! If you are interested in taking part in a written interview, like the one with Robbie (but updated and suited to you), please contact me with your interest. This is a gloriously fun project for me and my partner and the more creators* that contribute, the better our blog will be! http://catchingsightfilm.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/life-is-full-of-creativ... *actors, visual artists, photographers, painters, animators, costume designers, dancers, models, directors, editors, writers, set designers, prop makers, acting coaches, mentors, cinematographers, etc.

Very interesting project. Defining "Happiness" is where I think it breaks down in concept. If there were a choice between one's talent and a perceived bliss, I would always rely upon my talent because it is in the process of realizing the "talent's" potential that bliss is experienced.

talent: doing what you love occasionally brings happiness, but doing what you hate brings nothing but misery.

Most artists, unsurprisingly, have either hedged their bets or outright declared they would choose talent. Apparently, if you're going to be depressed anyway, you may as well be impressive. One of the interviewees was an opera singer, she very suavely responded, "I don't do happiness."

Molly Kerr that is awesome. For myself, I enjoy the view from the valley to the heights, life is too damn short to chase happiness that can be found in the deepest depths of despair if we only open our eyes and cling to our faith. We are only there for the view, not dwell and set up house.
