Documentary - how a small-town pastor was responsible for bringing international attention to Sri Lankan civil war

We're beginning pre-production of "Just Peace," a film about new, emerging philosophies on war and peacemaking. The centerpiece is the story of a minister from a tiny rural town (less than 50 members in his church) who became disenchanted by the typical "take up a collection" response to situations of poverty, hunger and war. He began a partnership with a Christian church in rebel-held territory in Sri Lanka and through his trips into the war zone and years of persistence, was able to convince the U.S. and foreign governments to pressure the Sri Lankan leadership and the rebels into compromise, cease-fire and structured peace negotiations. Through video taken by the minister during his visits to the war zone (he was the first white man to gain access to the Tamil-controlled regions), we'll look at the unique strategies behind the successes and what caused the eventual collapse of the peace process. Already agreeing to participate are U.S. congressmen in office during this period, former state department officials, mediators present at the negotiations, exiled leaders of the Tamil Tigers, members of the Just Peacemaking Initiative and members of the 9/11 Commission. We will be filming in dozens of locations in the U.S. and Europe when production begins, and I hope to be able to work with some members of the Stage 32 community.
