Acting : Recent Audition by Suzanne Sadler

Recent Audition

I know as a "seasoned" actor that after auditioning one should "forget about it". But...easier said than done. It has been at least 4 years since I've actually auditioned in a casting director and/or talent agent's office - until today. Lately, most of my work has been garnered via self-taped auditions for indie film projects. The experience left me with certain feelings that I'm still working through. Maybe it's time to do some theatre.

Vincent Lowe

Very good conclusion. Nothing takes the tension out of the process like a ton of repititions in front of hungry theatre folk and a live audience. Good thoughts with you on the part you auditioned for -- and by all means, get out there and play a tough role on the stage.

I so appreciate your comment, Vincent. Thank you!

Deon Vozov

A little "trick" that I've shared with VO folks is this: as soon as you get word that you've booked an audition, go to your long-range to-do list and let your eye just land on something. Maybe it's new head shots. May it's make a call to a special contact. Maybe it's add or change something on your demo reel. Whatever strikes your fancy. Put a specific step towards that in the hour on your schedule immediately following the audition. It's not a cure-all for getting past rumination on an audition, but it can help to move you through it quickly. And, there's no law that says you can't add two steps to your schedule. Get your eye on what you're going to engage AFTER the audition, that's the goal. Best of luck to you in all your creative endeavors!
