I attended a really cool presentation and panel discussion last night in Hollywood, featuring the visual effects teams from Blur Studios. They were talking about the making of the opening title sequence to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The whole thing was completed from concept to final render in 4 months using 3DS Max as the main modeling and rendering tool, and XSI as their main animation package. No live action was used at all in the opening. Everything was entirely CG.
