When considering locations, what sources do you use to determine the level of resources available in that particular area or state - state/city film offices, local production companies, colleagues or other resources? I know, for instance that Minnesota has an online guide after years of publishing a print version.

If that's the case, Lisa, what is your opinion of them - useful, helpful, effective? And at what level do you start your info search - state, regional, local? And thanks for responding.
If exterior, then how many camera angles are useable--360 degrees is ideal. Direction of the sun so you can schedule your shots to match the source for light and shadows. Parking and toilet facility availability. Vehicular and pedestrian control. Permits, fees, and licences required. Presence of sound interference--construction, air flight pattern, etc. No items that would defeat the period of the piece--Tv dishes, aerials, parking meters, etc. If Interior, removal of irreplaceable items, floor and wall protection, fire and heat safety--sprinklers, etc., Parking and toilet availability. Acoustical properties, power availability, Sound interference from neighbors, air conditioners, total control of the location, costs involved. And much, much more.
