Anything Goes : On a Break by Christopher Hart

On a Break

How dare the world try! It rotates arrogantly, thinking that no one can stop her. Well, I'll tell you all this. She IS right. Our lives end, time cheats us, and all we can do is try. The door shuts in our faces, and turns up the bass, shattering our hearts through its deep vibrations. "How long have you been writing?" she asks. My eyes can't stay open. I nod off, my mind runs through a scene, and then it's forgotten. I slap myself, hard, in the face, "Too long," I reply. She places a cup of coffee on my table. The steam, the WAKE UP smell. "Thanks I feel better now," I say. My computer is sleeping, I check if I saved my last scene I wrote. Thank God it's still there.
