EVA foam for vacu-form?

Does anyone have any experience with using EVA foam in a vacu-form machine? I'm looking for a soft, lightweight alternative to plastic or fiberglass for making an underskull that is still durable enough to hold simple eye mechs. Seen a few articles and videos, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has tried it firsthand about any downsides.

Hi Shiva, why would you want a soft underskull if you're putting mechs in it? Vacuform plastic is not heavy and can be drilled full of holes after mechs are placed to save even more weight. Rogier Samuels

Trying to eliminate needing both an outer "skin" and an underskull if at all possible.

If you come up with something let me know. Cause it will be tech oscar time! ;) No seriously. What you could do is cast the head in a rigid material like vacform plastic or a laminated resin. And only replace the bits that need to move with a flexible material like foam latex or silicone. You still need to connect your mechs to the rigid, now outer, skin. So you'll have to patch visible boltholes.

I kinda thought it was wishful thinking... but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. :) I need the visible outer to be "flawless", so mixing materials would definitely compromise that. Looks like I'm going with the traditional skin over an underskull.

Still would love to hear from anyone whose done work with EVA foam in a vacu-form machine. If anything, could be fun for costume fabrication later on.
